What makes Hungarian Tokaji wine so special?
The vineyard has been famous for at least 400 years for its 'nectar' which is appreciated by many connoisseurs and compared to the wines of Sauternes Constantia and to the Trockenbeerenauslese style.
The unique climate allowed the first dessert wine in history to be made from grapes that had been 'touched' by noble rot (botrytis cinerea) a disease that changed the history of European wine forever.
King Louis XIV called this region 'the wine of kings the king of wines' and the wine is even mentioned in the official national anthem of Hungary. The wine from this region has an older tradition than champagne. The first sources date back to around 1630.
