From a young age growing up in the suburbs of Connecticut the number on the scale went up and down as did my relationship with sports. At 14 I was a soccer prodigy running laps up and down the field with confidence and a great feeling. At 17 I didn’t make the junior volleyball team because I couldn’t run a sub-10:00 mile and my interests became much less active.

While I was heavily involved in the arts and a local youth group I started to gain weight. Despite my enthusiasm for my extracurricular activities I began to feel insecure and uncomfortable in my own body.
