Salting pasta is a quick step that’s easy to skip but it makes a big difference. We all know that unseasoned food becomes bland and unappealing so it makes sense that salted pasta tastes better than unsalted. Just like adding herbs and spices to your pasta sauce it’s also essential to season your pasta by salting the water you cook it in.

Are you adding salt yet? You may be undersalting the water and missing some flavor. Chef Amy Hand a food writer for the website The Skillful Cook told Chowhound that it’s important to be generous with adding salt to your pasta water. “You’ll be using a lot of water when cooking your pasta so don’t be shy about salting it thoroughly” Chef Hand said. “It may seem like a lot but the pasta itself will only absorb some of that salt during the rapid cooking time so you shouldn’t oversalt it.”
