It seems like people all over the world love Thai food and there are nearly 7000 Thai restaurants in the United States alone. Los Angeles County has the largest Thai population of any major U.S. city so it’s no surprise that there are plenty of great Thai eateries to explore. When part of the East Hollywood neighborhood became the world’s first official Thai city in 1999 the area became popular for its epic Thai restaurants. But the influence has spread to other locations as well.

10 Best Thai Restaurants in Los Angeles!

With so many options it can be tough to decide where to eat. I’ve been blogging and writing about Los Angeles food culture since 2007 and have visited most of the Thai restaurants in and around the city. To help narrow down the choices here are 11 Thai restaurants in LA that I think are worth checking out. Of course these aren’t the only Thai restaurants to explore so I encourage you to explore celebrity chef Jet Tila’s top red flags for a second-rate Thai restaurant and find your own favorites.

Anajak Thai is one of the oldest Thai restaurants in Los Angeles. It opened in 1981 but has recently regained prominence and was named The LA Times Restaurant of the Year in 2022. The family-owned restaurant has managed to maintain its classic Thai menu while offering creative takes on Thai food with a Los Angeles twist.

A trip to Anajak Thai can be three very different experiences depending on when you go. Most nights you’ll get the traditional Thai dishes that Anajak founder Ricky Pichetrungsi has been serving at the restaurant for decades. On Tuesday nights the alleyway next to the restaurant transforms into Thai Taco Tuesday (TTT) where Justin Pichetrungsi Ricky’s son and winner of the 2023 James Beard Award for Best Chef: California has fun creating tacos with Thai flavors often collaborating with chefs from around the country. The TTT menu changes weekly but I’ve always enjoyed the creative angles. And one weekend a month Anajak hosts a multi-course tasting menu called Omakase complete with wine pairings.
