My kids are officially on summer vacation which means three things: working through five pages of their Kumon workbooks every morning going to the local pool every day and eating our weight in ice cream. We all agree that ice cream is the highlight of summer. And according to my six-year-old the point of ice cream is the toppings. (I couldn’t agree more!) So every June I buy a giant tub of sprinkles to last me all summer and make my own 2-ingredient hot chocolate sauce.
Growing up in Paraguay Hershey’s chocolate syrup was an expensive import that my parents couldn’t afford. Luckily I have a resourceful mother who found two ingredients in our pantry—sweetened condensed milk and baking soda—and whipped them into a gooey sweet confection that put the store-bought stuff to shame.
