The Ultimate MALAYSIAN STREET FOOD in Penang!! 🇲🇾 5 MUST-EAT Dishes in Penang Malaysia!!

While street traders are still easy to find – even in the skyscraper-studded heart of Kuala Lumpur they wait for office workers to take the elevator down for their lunch or coffee break – many street traders have moved to more comfortable and convenient locations.

Nowadays street food can be found in open-air weekly markets (e.g. pasar malam) on the ground floor of restaurants (usually shared by several traders) and in air-conditioned food courts in shopping malls both large and small. It is also not uncommon for successful traders to set up a restaurant (or even a chain of restaurants) after years of perfecting the craft of capital and brand building.

This means that there is no clear boundary between “street food” and “restaurant food” in the Malaysian context. Thus there are many popular Malaysian dishes that clearly fall under the general definition of street food (food prepared for immediate consumption without the need for a special kitchen) even though many Malaysians today do not necessarily eat them on the street.
