A country in Eastern Europe Romania has a diverse geography and a rich history both of which are reflected in the country's complex cuisine. With the Carpathian Mountains running through the center and the Black Sea bordering the country to the southeast Romania was historically divided into four regions that became one country after World War II. These four regions (Transylvania Moldavia Wallachia and Dobruja) although sharing the same language developed under very different historical circumstances but were influenced in different ways by other cultures and ethnicities.
