Man I can tell you there's nothing that scares people more than the idea of Fernet Branca.
A fernet is an amaro a bitter Italian herbal liqueur and Fernet Branca is a specific brand of fernet that is even more bitter than most and is definitely a flavor you have to learn to appreciate. There are other fernets of course and we listed them a while back. But Fernet Branca is the most famous for better or worse and it’s the brand that appears most often in cocktail recipes. Bartender Michael Neff once called it “mouthwash with delusions of grandeur.” Whenever we do an article about Fernet Branca people seem to line up to comment on how gross it is.
