My 5 FAVORITE Summer Cocktails – Easy AND Simple

When you’re splashing around in your new swimsuit this summer (or just mixing something up to enjoy in your inflatable adult pool) you’ll want a drink that’s fruity citrusy lightly sparkling or sweet — or all of those things combined. Drinks like the French 75 Americano Hugo spritz pineapple jalapeño margarita and the Aviation are all fantastic alternatives to the typical poolside beverage. Colorful fun and even a little mysterious (you’re sure to start a conversation with a purple Aviation in your hand) these drinks are guaranteed to enhance your summer cocktail experience.

Many people associate the French 75 with brunch but it’s also a simple yet elegant drink to enjoy poolside. The modern version of this cocktail is made with gin champagne lemon juice and sugar. It’s super light and refreshing with the lemon adding a citrusy punch to the sweetness of the champagne and sugar.

Despite its refined appearance the French 75 has a rough history. The “75” in the name refers to a rifle—specifically the French 75-millimeter field rifle common during World War I. The drink got its explosive name because the first version apparently packed quite a punch knocking drinkers off their feet. (Of course you won’t be doing much standing around the pool.)
