Today we are looking at fixing Windows 11 file system errors, it also works on Windows 10. These 5 simple tests will help you fix BSODs and any hard drive errors you might encounter.
Step 1
Checking system memory for errors.
Open search and type Windows Memory Diagnostic,
Click Restart Now and check for issues. In Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, press F1.
Choose Extended, use the TAB key to navigate and select Number of Passes, type 15, then click F10 to begin.
2nd step
Check the SMART of the hard drive or SSD. This will tell you if the disk is healthy. Open PowerShell as administrator.
Type or copy-paste the following command: Get-WmiObject -namespace root//wmi -class MSStorageDriver_FailurePredictStatus.
You can also use software called CrystalDiskInfo
Step 3
Check the disk drive for possible file system errors and bad sectors.
Open search and type CMD, right click on Command Prompt and run as administrator,
Type the following command chkdsk c: /f /r and press Enter. The PC will need to be restarted to start the verification process. Don't forget to change C: to the drive you want to scan. Also chkdsk /? will give you access to all the different switches for the chkdsk command.
Step 4
System File Checker Utility
Open Search and type CMD, right-click Command Prompt and run as administrator, in the Command Prompt window type SFC /scannow and press Enter. The System File Check utility checks the integrity of Windows system files and repairs them if necessary.
Step 5
Check and repair Windows image
If Windows system files are corrupted, we can try to repair Windows image with these commands.
Type: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and press Enter.
Scan the image to verify that it is not corrupted.
Type: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and press Enter.
Check the image to see if any corruption has been detected.
Type: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.
Use the /RestoreHealth argument to repair the image. For example, to repair an offline image using a mounted image as the repair source, at a command prompt, type the following command:
Dism /Image:C://offline /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c://test//mount//windows
Or to repair an image online using some of your own sources instead of Windows Update, type:
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:c://test//mount//windows /LimitAccess
If you do not specify a /Source for the repair files, the default Features On Demand location is used. For more information, see Configure a Windows Repair Source. If you specify multiple /Source, files are copied from the first location they are found and other locations are ignored. You can use /LimitAccess to prevent the DISM tool from using Windows Update as a repair source or as a backup repair source for online images.
