Things You Should Never Do at Trader Joe's

That said not every product at Trader Joe's is a winner. In fact there are some items that are best avoided altogether. From bland sauces to disappointing dough some Trader Joe's products just aren't worth buying. If you don't want that brown paper bag to be a mixed bag here are five items you're better off skipping during your next grocery trip.

Just as Trader Joe’s “rooster sauce” also known as sriracha has a bit of a cult following it’s no wonder. The bright red sauce which originated in Thailand is a spicy blend of chili peppers vinegar and other spices. Originally developed in the 1930s there is no definitive recipe. However the Huy Fong brand of sriracha is by far the most popular in the United States. With a rooster logo and iconic green squeeze cap the spicy tangy sauce is a kitchen staple for many home cooks. However it has been unusually difficult to find in recent years as production has been halted on and off since 2020. Huy Fong has halted production of their sriracha sauce once again leaving many looking for alternative sauces.

But there's one stop you might want to skip in your search for alternatives: the Trader Joe's version. This is especially true if you're a die-hard fan of the roast sauce as Trader Joe's lacks the spiciness of Huy Fong and relies heavily on sweetness throwing off the sauce's expected flavor balance. Users on the Reddit subpage r/traderjoes have also expressed their distaste for this version of the sauce with Reddit user u/frontier91 noting that the sauce is "[b]y far and away the worst product I've ever tried from TJs." So maybe skip this one on your next Trader Joe's trip.
