9 Easy Substitutes for Chicken Broth

Chicken stock adds rich deep flavor to almost any savory dish that calls for water including soups stews curries pasta sauces casseroles and more.

Chicken stock is especially delicious when it is homemade. This can be easily made by slowly simmering some chicken legs (or a whole chicken) in water with some vegetables (onion carrot and celery are the main suggestions!) and some herbs and maybe some garlic or wine.

It is entirely up to you how complex you want to make your stock. Let it cool and strain it after simmering for 2-3 hours. You will be left with a light colored clear stock that is much better than water when making rice (or other grain) soups and stewed meat dishes.
