I’ll be the first to say it: Shaved ice is a boring dessert. Compared to ice cream the frozen treat lacks variety and creativity. While it’s probably its simplicity that makes it so beloved sometimes you just need a little something extra. Don’t worry I’ve got a few fun recommendations that will give this treat the upgrade it deserves and keep you coming up with new cone ideas all summer long.
Although Reese Witherspoon recommends making snow cones with real snow if you’re craving fluffy ice cream in the summer chances are nature isn’t going to make ice cream for you. It may seem like you need an expensive machine to make your snow cones perfectly fluffy but let me tell you that’s not the case. For perfectly shaved ice I recommend letting your ice cream thaw outside of the freezer for 5 minutes so it’s neither too hard nor too soft. Be patient and once it reaches the right snowy texture use a bowl or spoon to pack your ice cream together for a store-bought snow cone feel.
