I’m never quite sure what I can throw in the garbage disposal. The humming and grinding sounds make it seem like it can grind up anything but some things can cause serious problems. I learned this the hard way. I had to have my garbage disposal replaced and the plumber lectured me about how little stuff should go in it.
It turns out that you can throw away small amounts of fruit and vegetable scraps ice cream and most food scraps. "A few scraps are fine for the garbage disposal" says Paul Abrams director of public relations for Roto-Rooter. "Where most people run into trouble is when they throw too much in the garbage disposal."
