Chili pastes come in a variety of flavors including smoky sour sweet spicy and salty. They can also be smooth pureed chunky or somewhere in between. They can also range from mild to incredibly spicy depending on how and where they are made and from which chili peppers.

Chili paste is something you probably already have in your home in some form. The simplest form would be a pre-made hot sauce such as Tobasco Frank's Red Hot or Sriracha (more on that later). But it's also very easy to make your own by simply mixing some hot peppers and water into a paste.
