Napa Valley is one of the most famous wine regions in the US and is a must-visit for any wine lover. Winemaking in Napa Valley began in 1839 but the region only became famous after the 1976 Paris Tasting when Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and Stag's Leap Wine Cellars won over wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy in a blind tasting. The neighboring wine region of Sonoma Valley also became popular along with Napa Valley because the short distance means travelers can visit both in one trip.
