How to choose a juicy lemon?
The fir eats / Julia Hartbeck
When you’re making a recipe that calls for lemon juice like a homemade salad dressing or sauce you want to make sure you’re getting the right lemon. Tangy hard citrus fruits with little juice can be a downer and lemons aren’t exactly cheap. Luckily there’s a super-simple way to identify the juiciest citrus fruits in the produce aisle.
Josh Alsberg co-owner and co-founder of Rubinette Produce Market in Portland OR says it all comes down to weight density. Basically you want to choose a lemon that feels plumper (with juice!) than the other. "With all citrus fruits if you take two different fruits that are the same size and one feels heavier that's the juicier one" he says.
