I'm Heidi – This site celebrates cooking and aims to help you incorporate the power of lots of vegetables and whole foods into your daily meals. The recipes you'll find here are vegetarian often vegan and written with the home cook in mind. This site has been my online "home base" for almost twenty years. Around here we call this firebutter but that might be a bit of an exaggeration. It’s a bracing blend of ground ginger cinnamon and cayenne pepper mixed with walnuts and vanilla extract to make a homemade walnut butter. If I have maca powder or mesquite flour on hand I’ll add that too. This has become a quick and spicy favorite in our house and a way to nutritionally amp up an everyday favorite with a whole lot of spice. When you mix your own nut butters it’s hard to resist adding stuff to them! This version is perfect spread on toast drizzled on banana coins or apple slices or thinned into a dipping sauce for spring rolls.
