How to make Advocaat – The homemade Dutch party liqueur (alternative to Advocaat)

Advocaat (pronounced ad-vuh-cah) is a traditional Dutch custard made from egg yolks and brandy. Sometimes called Dutch advocaat it is similar in flavor but richer and thicker than the advocaat you may be used to. It is so thick that you can eat it with a spoon or rather should eat it.

This drink is often called "devil's advocate" because once you start sipping the sweet nectar you can't resist the temptation to drink more. While commercial eggnog can be hard to find outside of Europe it's easy to make your own with a few common ingredients.

Experience a Dutch adventure in your own home and enjoy advocaat as a thick seasonal drink during the winter holidays. Serve it in small glasses with a little whipped cream or mix it with sparkling lemonade for a snowball cocktail. It is also delicious poured over homemade vanilla ice cream or used as a filling in desserts pastries and cakes.
