Alice Medrich is a baker and cookbook author who reinvented and popularized chocolate truffles in the United States in the 1970s. She trained under French master pastry chef Gaston Lenôtre and was the founder and owner of Cocolat a chain of dessert and chocolate shops in California. Alice has won James Beard Awards for her cookbooks Cocolat Chocolate and the Art of Low-Fat Desserts and Flavor Flours and International Association of Culinary Professionals Awards for Cocolat and Chewy Gooey Crispy Crunchy Melt-in-Your-Mouth Cookies. Her book Pure Dessert was named one of the best cookbooks of the year by Food & Wine Bon Appétit and Gourmet. Alice has appeared on television with Julia Child and was featured on Growing a Business as a case study of a successful entrepreneur. She is also a culinary educator and consultant for chocolate companies.
