Top 10 Must-Try Restaurants In Austin TX 2024: Guide to the Best Places to Eat in Austin

At the end of East Austin lies Contigo a farm-to-table restaurant with perhaps the best outdoor setting in the city. Maybe it’s the long drive in the opposite direction from civilization or the layout of the large communal tables but the sky just seems bigger here… especially on this particular night when gloomy purple and gray storm clouds were just beginning to gather overhead.

I love it here in the summer because the menu is lighter and has more vegetarian options. (In other seasons it can be a pretty meat-and-pork-heavy place.) But this time the highlights for me were: Shishito peppers with peanut sauce (not pictured – we probably ate that too quickly) Grilled zucchini & fennel with smoked tomatoes and my absolute favorite the beetroot and potato salad with rocket and caraway.

Cocktail highlights include the El Pepino (tequila cucumber mint lime) and the Smokin' Gypsy (vodka benedictine balcones brimstone angostura bitters). I was far too full for dessert but I'm still a little bummed I didn't try the Smoked Peaches with white chocolate and oat crisp.
