Tips for a Boastful Backyard Party

A backyard party is what you make of it we think. There’s no set maximum or minimum number of attendees. You can call it a party whether it’s four friends huddled around a fire pit or a full-on 4th of July bash with extended family neighbors and dozens of kids strutting around under your feet. You can fire up the grill or just set up a potluck and a stack of plates. You don’t even need a backyard! Have your party on your balcony or stoop or open garage door — as long as you’re outside it counts.

Our cover star Gaby Dalkin knows all about hosting backyard parties with ease. We’re so grateful she shared her Mediterranean-inspired menu and philosophy on outdoor entertaining. If you often cook for mixed groups of vegetarians and meat eaters check out British grill master Genevieve Taylor’s deep dive into the omnivore’s grill. Live for dessert? Baker and cookbook author Cheryl Day shares her memories of southern summers plus three desserts for your summer gatherings.

We the editors at Simply Recipes have been working on these stories for months and we’re so excited to finally share them with you. Go ahead — kick off your shoes pour yourself a lemonade and spend some time with us planning your next backyard party.
