This recipe for sugar cookies with self-rising flour comes from my grandmother in the backstreets of Mississippi. My mother kept the recipe and we grew up eating raw cookie dough before we had cookies for the holidays. This will always be my go-to cookie dough recipe. It’s quick and easy to make with everyday ingredients in the most sparsely stocked kitchen. You don’t have to be a chef to whip up a batch of these light and buttery cookies. Royal icing is recommended but they’re delicious plain.
