My hippie teacher Heather—who has the most voluminous messy blonde hair you’ll ever hate not having—and I met in 2006 at a summer camp in Northern California when she took a job as a stand-in lifeguard and I was a 9- and 10-year-old girl counselor. It was her first day and I hated seeing her all alone without knowing anyone so I walked up to her and introduced myself. After a few conversations we became fast friends over our love of exercise big hair and blueberries and oatmeal for breakfast. The rest is history.
Although we were only together for two full months that summer we were like sisters when I flew back to Kansas in August. And it was one of the most bittersweet days of my young adult life.
Another new best friend story I’ve been loving telling lately is one that happened recently. John and I were looking for a new place to rent about a month ago. We called a place and made an appointment for 3:30 and got there right on time. We walked up and were greeted by the realtor… and another couple who had also promised a 3:30 showing.
