The DIFFERENCE! Black Raspberry VS Blackberry
One of the many joys of summer is the abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. As a resident of Michigan where berries are plentiful I especially look forward to blackberry season. Every bite tastes like a burst of summer after a harsh Midwest winter and to this day my mother still makes my great-grandmother’s frozen jam recipe with fresh blackberries to remember the hot summer by when the cold weather returns. A few years ago when my family owned a bakery my mother would return from the farmers market with a few boxes of black raspberries.

I had never heard of these dark little berries before but they were absolutely delicious to eat out of hand. They were similar in shape but slightly smaller crunchier and considerably sweeter than the more familiar blackberries. These new berries quickly became a favorite. We used them to make a glaze to decorate lemon cupcakes and within an hour every cupcake with black raspberry glaze was gone. In the days that followed our regular customers raved about the fruit mostly wanting to know where we got them and when we would have them again. To our dismay they never returned.
