Horchata also known as orxata de zufa is a creamy drink that is believed to have originated in Valencia Spain. It is popular throughout Europe Central and South America and the United States. However the ingredients name and flavor vary by region.

In Mexico and Guatemala horchata is usually made with rice cinnamon and vanilla. But in other regions it is made with morro seeds tiger nuts almonds sesame seeds barley and more! Our version is most similar to the Mexican and Guatemalan versions. Here is an alcoholic twist on this delicious drink!

Just like with our vodka root beer floats a bit of tasting was necessary to determine which spirit best complemented the flavors and texture of the horchata. Since horchata is a bit thinner and has a pronounced sweet flavor rum and Kahlua (coffee + rum liquor) were the best pairings. Either will work here it just depends on whether or not you’re a coffee lover. If a coffee-infused drink sounds good to you go all-in on Kahlua. Otherwise stick with a dark rum.
