Boston Brown bread reminds me of my mother born in Ipswich Massachusetts. Slices of deep brown “bread” — brown bread is chewy with a consistency similar to traditional pumpernickel — studded with raisins and fried in butter. Lots of butter.
Brown bread was a regular part of my mother's weekly meal and was always served with baked beans with lots of salt pork in them. Hot dogs were also served which like the bread were fried in butter.
