How to Make a Boulevardier Cocktail – Liquor.com

Think of the Negroni: made with gin Campari and sweet vermouth. The Negroni is a cocktail that is at once sharp and smooth lean and lush abruptly bitter and slightly sweet. A cocktail in other words with the kind of bright clean character that is perfect for a summer day but robust enough to hold its own all year round.

This is no Negroni. It is however the Negroni’s long-lost autumnal cousin. First recorded in print in 1927 in a slim book called Barflies and Cocktails and nearly forgotten since then the Boulevardier takes the same Negroni formula—a heavy dose of gin topped with equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth—and gives it a twist by using whiskey in place of the gin.
