Almost everyone has some sort of “smart” device, and Dr. Leon Geter urges students – from kindergarten – through college and beyond, to be careful. Increased cybersecurity awareness and protections are essential to being safe. Better protection of personal data and information in the face of constant risks, threats and vulnerabilities is essential. It teaches that taking active and consistent steps to ensure cybersecurity and protection against cybercriminals and other hackers is everyone's business. Dr. Leon T. Geter currently serves as Chair of the Department of Criminal Justice Administration and Social Sciences at Benedict College (CJASS). As well as the founding director of the Benedict College Center for Cybersecurity. Dr. Geter served as Principal Investigator (PI) of the Benedict College Cybersecurity Initiative, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). Dr. Geter chairs an annual cybersecurity symposium. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
