I'm Heidi – This site celebrates cooking and aims to help you incorporate the power of lots of vegetables and whole foods into your daily meals. The recipes you'll find here are vegetarian often vegan and written with the home cook in mind. This site has been my online "home base" for almost twenty years. It was originally built on the premise that once you own over 100 cookbooks (raise your hand!) it's time to stop buying and start cooking. This site chronicles a cookbook collection one (vegetarian) recipe at a time. But there's more to the story now that we're a few decades into it here's a little background on me and the site…

March has been a bit of a whirlwind. The entire month has flown by in a blur of planes trains friends and house guests. Which is a long way of saying I’m still trying to keep my head above water. My suitcase has been sitting on the floor in the middle of our bedroom since Saturday still completely full. My inbox is a disgrace. To say I’ve kept things simple in the kitchen is an understatement. Take this basic carrot soup for example—I threw it together the other day with the best carrots I could find at the market and not much else. It’s easy enough to make during the week and rather than get too complicated at the beginning of a soup like this I usually let my creative whims run wild just before serving. In this case I drizzled the finished soup with a strong streak of toasted sesame oil other times I’ve used a spicy olive oil with crushed red pepper flakes and another time a diluted oregano pesto. You can leave it a bit chunky or puree it until smooth—whichever you prefer.
