If you have a super ooey gooey sticky sweet tooth then this classic Southern pie is for you. I learned about it when I worked with a sous chef from Virginia who had an insatiable taste for sweets and would beg me to make it for family dinner whenever I had a few minutes to spare. I was always happy to treat her to a sweet taste of home. This pie only takes a few minutes to make and requires no special equipment. Plus it relies on ingredients that most people already have on hand making it just about the easiest pie to make.
The origin of the name "Chess Pie" is unclear; some attribute it to its ancestor the cheese tart while others believe it is named after Chester County or after the pie "chest" in which it was stored before being served. The mysterious origin story makes this classic Southern pie appealing but it's the sugar that keeps people coming back for more.
