CINCINNATI CHILE (NOT WHAT YOU EXPECTED…) | SAM THE COOKMAN
Serious Mealtimes / Amanda Suarez
Most people make a mistake when eating Cincinnati chili including Cincinnati residents.
No this isn’t another Cincinnati chili-is-actually-good piece. There have been enough of those written already.* I’m tired of defending the dish. Like many native Cincinnatians I’m plagued by the feeling that if Macedonian immigrants Tom and John Kiradjieff had invented it in New York City (where legend has it they sold hot dogs before moving to Ohio) Greek chili would be a beloved East Coast staple instead of another example of supposedly bad Midwestern taste. But let’s assume Cincinnati chili is good because of course it is. It’s noodles Mediterranean-style meat sauce and cheese. What’s not to like?
