There are some things to keep in mind:
1 – Airflow through fans tends to go back and forth. In other words, the front of the fan sucks in air and the back sucks. So you would generally want to face the intake fans facing outward from the case and the exhaust fans facing away from the air vents.
2 – Hot air rises, so when possible it's best to place intake fans at the front and bottom of your case, then exhaust fans at the top and back.
3 – Avoid placing intake and exhaust fans close together. If you put intake fans on the front and then exhaust fans on the side right next to it, all you're doing is circulating air through the case and then immediately exhausting it. Not ideal.
4 – Be careful not to fall into the trap of installing fans just to see the RGB. It's easy to do and I've done it too.
5 – Make sure to place intake fans at the bottom of your case if possible. If you put the bottom ones to exhaust, they will fight the GPU fans trying to pull air through the graphics card to cool it. Most GPUs exhaust air from the back, near the HDMI/DP connections. But there will also be some ventilation above as the heat dissipates naturally.
