Google Meet is a free alternative to tools like SKYPE or Zoom or Microsoft Teams. It's free with ALL GMAIL accounts and has a number of really useful features. In fact, for a free tool, it's one of the most impressive tools I've come across.
Google Meet has a number of truly impressive features. For example, you can include subtitles automatically generated by your voice during your presentation. This is ideal if you are presenting to a hearing-impaired group or to people who are not native speakers of your language. It works in multiple languages and works great. Both the presenter and the participants can use it.
Google Meet is really easy to set up. You can start a meeting immediately and simply share a link, then email the link to the people you want to join the meeting. You can also schedule a meeting in your calendar and add the people you want to join. They will all receive an invitation.
This is a great tool for trainers and teachers. You can have up to 100 people in a meeting and up to 49 people on screen with their webcams. You can share a screen and thus share a PowerPoint presentation or share a screen from your computer desktop. Screen sharing works very well and in this video I present this functionality to you in detail.
One really awesome thing about Google Meet is that you can set backgrounds. This feature is very simple to use and allows you to blur the background or add a number of different backgrounds in a meeting. Google Meet makes all the settings very easy to configure and it's very easy to share a meeting and get others to join your meeting.
Remember I'm showing you the FREE tool. This comes with any basic GMAIL account. This is not the professional version of the product. There are no breakout rooms in the free product, but there are a number of great features that really set it apart as a free webinar tool.
I highly recommend it to anyone teaching. Don't forget that participants can also share their screen. It is therefore an ideal solution for small teaching groups, corporate training, but also for large groups of up to 100 people.
