video description

Last week I talked about one of the special boot modes of Google Pixel 7 series called Fastboot Mode. Today I would like to talk about another mode called recovery mode.

Although the name might give the impression that this mode could help you recover your personal data, like photos, apps, contacts, etc. It actually refers to file recovery for Android file system. If you ever encounter an issue where Android has random bugs affecting performance, overheating, forced crashes, or even a boot loop, the first thing you should do is try a factory data reset from Windows mode. recovery.

I have the Pixel 7 Pro here, but this tutorial will work for the base model Pixel 7 as well as the upcoming mid-range option, likely to be called Pixel 7a.

Now, to enter recovery mode on Pixel 7 series, we need to boot into Fastboot mode first. Remember, I've already covered this topic in another video so you can reference it if you're having trouble getting started in this special boot mode. The steps are very simple though and only require pressing and holding the volume down button while the device restarts.

After accessing the Fastboot mode menu, we will have to use the hardware buttons to navigate this menu.

So, let's press the volume down button until the Recovery Mode option is highlighted in the menu here.

Just press the power button to select this option which should cause the Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro to reboot into the recovery mode splash screen.

I say splash screen because once you get here you still haven't really entered recovery mode. Once you see this little Android figure on the screen, we need to press and hold the Power button before pressing the Volume Up button.

This button combination is known to be a little tricky, so it's completely normal that it might take you a few tries before you press it correctly.

But if done right, it should bypass that splash screen and take you straight to the Pixel 7's recovery mode menu.

And just like with Fastboot mode, we cannot navigate this menu using the touchscreen. So instead we have to use the hardware buttons on the side of the device to cycle through these options.

We'll want to press the Volume Up or Volume Down buttons to control which option is highlighted, then press the Power button when you're ready to select something from the menu.

There are a number of things we can do from this menu here, including reboot into Fastboot mode (aka bootloader mode), install an update via ADB or from SD card, perform a reset Factory data, view recovery logs and more.

But no matter what you choose here, when you are done with recovery mode on Pixel 7 series, you can restart the Android operating system by highlighting the Reboot system now option and then pressing the power button to select it.

Assuming the Android file system is not damaged or corrupted, it should reboot you from recovery mode and go straight back into Android as usual.

However, if you have noticed that this only requires you to reboot into recovery mode (or fastboot mode), there is probably a problem with the operating system files and you will need to perform a data reset. factory from recovery. Mode to try to turn the phone back on.
