How to Convert Rows to Columns in Google Sheets Step by Step Guide

In this video, I'll show you how to convert table rows to columns in Google Sheets.

Two methods to convert rows to columns:
1. Copy and paste special
2. Transpose function

Example table:
We have a table with some financial details over 12 months. Let's convert its rows to columns using both methods.

### Method 1: Special copy and paste
1. Select the table:
– Highlight the entire table.
– Click the Edit menu and select Copy.

2. Paste as transposed:
– Go to the target cell.
– Click again on the Edit menu.
– Select Paste Special, then choose the Transposed option.

Now the table rows are converted to columns while maintaining the original table format.

Method 2: Transpose function
1. Enter the transpose function:
– Go to the target cell and enter the TRANSPOSE(array_range) function.
– For the array range parameter, select the array and press Enter.

The table columns are now converted to rows. Note that the format of the source table is not preserved in the output.

Main differences:
– Layout:
– Copy and Paste Special preserves the format.
– The transpose function does not preserve the format.
– Dynamic updates:
– Changes to the source table are reflected in the output of the Transpose function.
– Changes are not reflected in the Special Copy and Paste output.
