This recipe contains two stories: one about how we stumbled upon a sparkling rosemary pancake for only $2.50. And two about how we found a new restaurant in downtown Wichita that looks nothing like Kansas and everything like Portland Oregon. Two great discoveries if you ask us.

GARLIC ROSEMARY OVEN FRIES

First up rosemary. I posted a photo of our new herbs on Instagram a few weeks ago and here’s a flattering portrait of one of our new beauties. We’ve had basil for a while now a gift from friends that I often use in Thai and Italian dishes. But you can’t go wrong with more herbs. So a few weeks ago when John and I were at our local Fresh Market we saw an amazing deal: 2 herb plants for $5! I couldn’t believe it and they looked so fresh. We immediately grabbed a mint and rosemary and headed to the register to pick up our prizes. The rest as they say is history.

The second part of this recipe is the inspiration behind it. We discovered this new restaurant in Wichita called Public that is so cool that we have been there three times and have already bought two Groupons for meals and we are going there tonight after we finish Christmas shopping.

While there’s a lot I could say we love that they’re committed to using fresh local ingredients (a rarity in Kansas); that they serve creative and inspired dishes; and that they have $2 beer specials daily. Also the owner used to live in Seattle a city we love and he follows us on Twitter and FULLY RECOGNIZED us on our first visit. John and I have NEVER been recognized in public for Minimalist Baker because we’re such a young site (born June 2012). Needless to say we were flattered impressed and now hooked on this awesome new place.
