Different Types of Food Thermometers and How to Use Them | Chef Jayson Powers
Checking to see if a piece of meat is done or making sure sugar has reached the right temperature for making candy is more than just guesswork. Accuracy is key to cooking these foods well and for that you need the right thermometer.
In addition to food temperature thermometers can also give you a real-world indication of the inside of your oven fridge and freezer. Your appliance’s built-in gauge may be inaccurate (ovens are notorious culprits); a thermometer will give you peace of mind that your cold food will stay cold and your cakes will bake evenly.
The instant-read thermometer is a probe thermometer that comes in both analog and digital versions that allows a cook to instantly measure the temperature of a dish. They are great for testing the doneness of a piece of meat or poultry while it is cooking but they are not meant to be left in while cooking. You simply insert the probe into the food check the temperature and then remove it.
