Video transcription:

Hi, Jason from XFanatical here. In this short video, I'll show how SafeDoc disables companion mode in Google Meet for Students.
Google Meet is widely used in distance learning. One of its features is that students can join “Companion Mode,” which does not require them to turn on their cameras or microphones. Teachers cannot easily disable this feature.

In the waiting room, there is a "Use Companion Mode" button below the "Join Now" button. This feature is intended to allow students to have a second screen when in a meeting, but without having the infinite echo loop by not allowing the microphone and video to be turned on. However, students can simply join the meeting only in companion mode and therefore are not required to turn on their cameras and microphones. This can annoy the teacher who might want all of their students' videos and audio files enabled. Safe Doc permanently removes the Companion Mode button for all meetings.
Students in the OU where Safe Doc is enabled are limited to presenting the screen. Teachers are not limited.

Set the value of BlockMeetCompanionMode to true to disable the Companion Mode feature on student Chrome browsers. The policy is disabled by default.

If you haven't yet installed Safe Doc, request a 30-day trial. The Safe Doc subscription form link is also provided in the video description.
