In this video, I'll show you how to fix an unresponsive or frozen screen with the following error message:
The display driver stopped responding and recovered.
The screen freezes for a few seconds then goes black before resuming work, but in some cases it may persist for about a minute with a pop-up notification error message saying "Display Driver Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8 or Windows 10 has stopped responding and recovered successfully" and the error message may continue to appear until the user restarts the computer.

This error is more common with Intel graphics card, but it can appear with other graphics cards such as NVidia GeForce, AMD or any graphics card.

This laptop is a Lenovo y510p with Intel HD Graphic 4600 and NVidia GeForce GT755m, but the methods are applicable to other laptops like Dell, Hp, Asus, Acer, Toshiba or any other laptop or desktop.
On my laptop the problem appears several times a day when using Google Chrome browser and the screen becomes unresponsive for 2 or 3 seconds, so I fixed the problem by disabling acceleration from settings like you can see it later in the video. However, on your computer, the problem may be caused by another application or game, or it may be related to general problems and I will show you how to fix them all. But if the source of the error is the faulty graphics card, you need to contact the laptop manufacturer for maintenance support or replace the corrupted graphics card with a new one.

First: update graphics drivers.
If there are multiple graphics cards on your laptop, you need to determine which one is the source of the error from the Event Viewer:
Press Windows R keys to open the Run dialog box.
Type eventvwr and press Enter to open Event Viewer. You can also open it by right-clicking the start icon and selecting Event Viewer from the list.
Double-click custom views to expand them and select administrative events.
Find Show Error and select it to view the error details.
If the event details are not displayed, click View and select Preview Pane to view it.
In my case, the error is related to the Intel HD graphics driver, based on the error details stating: "The igfx display driver stopped responding and was successfully recovered" and the ID number event 4101.
