Do you have a local account or a Microsoft account in Windows 11
Knowing the type of account you use can help you manage your settings, sync your preferences, and access features more efficiently.
A very quick way to identify the account type in Windows 11 is to open the Start menu.
If you see your email address next to your profile picture, you are signed in with a Microsoft account.
If you only see the account name, you are using a local account.
By clicking on your email address or account name, a menu will open where you can specify the account type for other users.
Another way to identify the account type is to use the Settings app.
Click your username and select Change account settings.
If you are logged in with a local account, you will see the word /"Local Account/" under your account name.
If you're signed in with a Microsoft account, you'll see your email address below your information.
You can also see the account type in the account settings section.
In another tutorial linked below and in the comments, we demonstrated the differences between a Microsoft account and a local account, as well as the benefits of each in Windows 11.
