Easy Hot Chocolate Recipe #shorts | How to Make Italian Hot Chocolate

Serious Mealtimes / Amanda Suarez

Nothing—except maybe my antidepressants and vitamin D supplements—lifts my spirits like hot chocolate. It’s warm and comforting a beacon of light during the dark days of winter. Peer out the windows of my apartment on a cold winter’s night and you’re likely to find me curled up on the couch with a big mug of hot chocolate pretending I’m sitting by a fire in a Swiss chalet.

My winter hot chocolate habit began on a cold day a few years ago when I felt an undeniable urge to make a childhood favorite: Horlicks a malted milk drink popular in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. While Horlicks is often used as a sleep aid in the United Kingdom it’s served all day in Hong Kong where it’s a popular drink at cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style restaurants) and can be enjoyed hot or cold. As I whisked the Horlicks powder into a pan of simmering milk I couldn’t help but think about how delicious the drink would be if I simply added a few pieces of dark chocolate to it. It would essentially become a malted hot chocolate.
