Denominations

So in Egypt, money is measured in pounds rather than dollars. Before coming to Egypt, I researched the currency and learned that it was called Egyptian pounds. So I expected to see price tags saying EGP, P or even LBS. So when I first arrived in Egypt, I always saw signs with a number followed by LE next to it. I was so confused as to what an LE was, but I quickly learned that le is used to represent one pound, so 10 le means 10 pounds.

I just wanted to add this because it might save you some confusion,

The Egyptian pound therefore has both notes and coins.
Exchange rate
Regarding the exchange rate, it is something that changes every day. But from now on, the best way to think about the exchange rate is how many pounds your USD can buy. A good exchange rate will have 1 USD able to buy almost 16 pounds, a bad exchange rate will have USD buying almost 14 pounds. The actual rate is normally $1 to 15.6 pounds, but many companies offer exchange rates lower than this, meaning you're not getting a fair exchange on your money.

Some useful tips for you to quickly hide Egyptian Pound to USD prices are to remember 15 to 1.

15 pounds for 1 dollar. When you think about things that way, it makes it so easy.
150 pounds equals 10 dollars
1,500 pounds equals 100 dollars

My big exchange rate tip is to understand the exchange rate for any debit/credit cards you plan to use while you're here.

Credit card

In Egypt, it is 100% possible to use your credit cards. Almost every place you visit will have the machines needed to pay by card. Just be careful of your card fees and you always want to alert your banks that you will be traveling to Egypt. So they don't flag your card or lock it. Most of the time, you can simply call and file a travel notice.
