video description

Google's rollout of RCS features in its own Messages app hasn't been the smoothest, but it has brought useful features to millions of people. Even when cell phone carriers dragged their feet, Google held firm and is now available to more people than ever.

Enabling this feature has its own drawbacks, however.

As mentioned in my previous video, if you change your phone without turning off this feature first, you may miss many text messages until the problem is fixed.

Sometimes enabling this feature prevented some people from sending their text messages. This can happen for one reason or another, but if messages are not sent when RCS is enabled, there is no fallback configured by default. It is possible to configure it this way, but it is not configured to do so by default. At least not at the time of recording this video.

So let me take this time to show you an option in the Google Messages app settings that will use SMS and MMS as a fallback if your phone is having trouble sending an RCS message.
