What is fatty liver disease?
Foie gras simply means Liver full of fat. This happens when fat builds up in the liver. Having small amounts of fat in the liver is normal, but too much can become a health problem.

We will mainly discuss non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and the stages of progression of liver disease.

Fatty liver disease can progress in four stages:
Simple fatty liver: There is an accumulation of excess fat in the liver.

Steatohepatitis: In addition to excess fat, there is inflammation of the liver.

Fibrosis: Persistent inflammation of the liver now causes scarring.

Cirrhosis: At this stage, scarring of the liver has become widespread, damaging the liver's ability to function. This is the most serious and irreversible stage.
So, until this 3rd stage, you can reverse the disease and lead a normal and healthy life.

Signs and symptoms of fatty liver disease:
Abdominal pain
loss of appetite
nausea
accumulation of fluid in the abdomen or ascites
pale stools
yellow skin, itching or jaundice
weightloss
breast augmentation in men
weakness or fatigue
confusion
easy bruising or bleeding
web-like clusters of blood vessels under your skin, called spider angiomas
dark colored urine
Muscle wasting
swelling (edema) of your legs

How to prevent fatty liver?
Weight loss: Excess weight is a major contributing factor to fatty liver disease. Try to lose at least 10% of your weight and this should be gradual.

Avoid alcohol consumption. As alcohol passes through the liver, it causes injury and inflammation. This will worsen liver damage again.

Drinking 3 cups of coffee a day can reverse or reduce the symptoms of fatty liver disease.

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant. It is very useful in reducing liver inflammation and excess fat.

Exercise is very important in the treatment of fatty liver disease. Exercises like running, swimming, and weightlifting will help reverse fatty liver disease.

Vitamin D may also be helpful in reducing disease progression.

The Mediterranean diet is very helpful in treating fatty liver disease because it includes olive oil, fish, and whole grains that help reduce the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

Low potassium level is significantly associated with the prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. You can increase potassium by eating fruits like banana, kiwi, sweet potato

Consumption of choline is very important in reversing fatty liver disease.
