I'm Heidi – This site celebrates cooking and aims to help you incorporate the power of lots of vegetables and whole foods into your daily meals. The recipes you'll find here are vegetarian often vegan and written with the home cook in mind. This site has been my online "home base" for almost twenty years. It was originally built on the premise that once you own over 100 cookbooks (raise your hand!) it's time to stop buying and start cooking. This site chronicles a cookbook collection one (vegetarian) recipe at a time. But there's more to the story now that we're a few decades into it here's a little background on me and the site…

A few weeks ago I featured Monica Bhide's new cookbook Modern Spice . Remember her Baked Chile Pea Puffs filled with peas paneer cheese chilies and garlic? Wow. Monica and I got to talking over email and I asked her if she would compile a list of her favorite cookbooks for us. For those of you unfamiliar with Monica's work – phew it's hard to keep up. She's written for just about every publication you can think of – The New York Times Bon Appetit Food & Wine The Washington Post Chicago Tribune Salon.com National Geographic Traveler . And those are just a few of the national titles – she writes internationally too. Born in India she now calls DC home trading a corporate career for a full-time job as a food writer and cooking instructor. For those interested in making that transition I've linked an interview Monica did below (and a few other related links).
