The latter gives a stronger and longer lasting flavor as the essential oils are safely stored in the hard shell of the peppercorn until the moment they are ground. Using pepper from a pepper mill also gives you more control over how much flavor you want a dish to have not only by how much you ultimately grind but also by the size of the grind itself.

There’s just one small problem: filling a pepper mill to get that flavor is easier said than done. You know what we’re talking about: peppercorns bounce everywhere except where they’re supposed to be. But fear not this notoriously difficult task is about to get a whole lot easier thanks to an extremely simple hack that only requires one tool: a ziplock bag or a bowl.

The idea is that any stray peppercorns will end up in the bag or bowl instead of rolling across the counter and onto the floor out of sight.
