For years, Samsung's OneUI has offered its users a way to control the brightness level of its flashlight. This has been incredibly useful because in some situations you need the torch to be brighter or dimmer than it is by default.

But Samsung had to specifically code this into its firmware because it wasn't a feature of stock Android. Luckily, this feature was added to Android 13 and I can show you a free and open source app that adds customizable controls for the LED flash light.

This app is called FlashDim and can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store, GitHub and F-Droid.

Once installed, you will get a new app on your home screen or app drawer called FlashDim. Directly in the application we can activate the torch at its maximum brightness, half brightness and minimum brightness levels. We can adjust the brightness manually with this sliding scale to the right. And we can also activate SOS or Morse Code mode.

Now this app will not replace your default flashlight feature in Android. You can see here, even if we set this to a low brightness level, the original flashlight Quick Settings tile will ignore it. However, this app will automatically create its own unique tile which can be manually added to the quick settings panel.

But even that tile will ignore the light level you set in that area of the app. But we can dive into the Settings area, enable the Link to Quick Settings button, and then set the Initial Level option to something we prefer.

So if you want the LED flashlight to be set to a low level when the Quick Settings tile has been enabled, we can configure it directly from here.

This free app was made available to the community by developer cyb3rko, and they seem very active when it comes to feature requests. So if you have an idea for a feature and they think it fits what the app can offer, they might be able to add it for you.
