We got drunk on this non-alcoholic drink
The fir eats / Julie Bang
For millennia alcoholic beverages have been a go-to for humans when we want to unwind or celebrate. In fact it’s thought that a genetic mutation ten million years ago that allowed our ancestors to digest alcohol is responsible for our migration from tree-dwelling creatures to land-dwelling creatures. That’s because the ability to eat fruit that was decomposing on the forest floor instead of barely ripe on the trees led us to move to the land. Needless to say we never looked back!
Despite our long and important relationship with alcohol many people don’t drink it. Whether it’s due to allergies addiction or just plain hatred of the morning-after effects some people avoid alcohol entirely. That doesn’t mean they don’t want to relax or celebrate though! And even those of us who do drink sometimes want an afternoon or evening drink that won’t leave us feeling lousy later.
