When I tested my recipe for Vegan Dessert Nachos a while back my friend Laura let me borrow some of her gluten-free brown rice tortillas to try out along with my whole wheat tortillas. I wasn’t expecting it but the gluten-free ones were way better than the whole wheat ones! Since then I’ve been trying to minimize gluten in my diet and opt for g-free options whenever I can.

These tortillas are my new favorite for wraps and such. They make a perfect base for tostadas when toasted and seasoned with garlic salt and pepper.
The history of tostadas is a bit of a mystery but they are a popular dish in Mexico and beyond! They may have been invented to extend the shelf life of tortillas.
